A Spiritual Awakening in the hospital Emergency

A client wrote about her experience in hospital emergency. Her husband, in great pain, was laid on the floor of an overcrowded department and ignored for many hours.

The pressure on the medical personnel meant that others, also in pain, were laid outside the hospital doors.

My client cajoled and fussed, using all her tricks to get her husband seen to. Nobody seemed to care. She was very shocked.

At that moment, my client had an overwhelming experience of how numbed and shut down emotionally Westerners are trained to be. It seemed to her - at that moment anyway - that the human values of compassion, nurturing, empathy and care were basically absent, from that Emergency Department.

Still, at the same time, she felt enormous compassion herself, not only about the patients but about the overwhelmed personnel who seemed to have trouble expressing any warmth or real feeling.

Many hours later, her husband was seen to directly and his problem cleared up.

But my client is left with this picture of the underlying callousness of what would seem to be a caring situation.

The very good news is it left her with a determination to walk her talk, to Be The Change She Wants To See, and to bring in compassion and awareness to every moment and interaction in her life.

Yay!!!!!
